  • 2. Eligibility

    Eurail Passes may be issued to anyone permanently residing outside Europe, the Russian Federation & Turkey.

    If a non-European customer has been staying in Europe for longer than 6 months (e.g. he/she has a working or holiday visa), then that customer is classed as a permanent resident of Europe, and thus not entitled to buy a Eurail Pass.

    In order to purchase a Eurail Pass, you should possess either:
    (a) Non-European passport/travel permit; or
    (b) European passport/identity card and proof of minimum 6 months residence at a non-European address.

    Residents of overseas territorial regions or territories of European States are eligible to buy Eurail, as are American or Canadian military personnel stationed in Europe.

    Residents from these countries are not entitled to buy a Eurail pass:
    Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Faeroer, Finland, FYR Macedonia, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia and Kosovo, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom or Vatican City.

    Train staff will check your residency in your travel document, so make sure that you bring the right documents.

  • 3. Eligibility for Saver

    Available for sale when between two and five persons (including children) wish to purchase the same type of Pass.

  • 4. Discount

    Benefits (e.g. free admissions, discounted travel) are available to Eurail passholders at a variety of partners including museums, attractions and shipping lines. Benefits can only be obtained on presentation of an activated Pass, and within the validity dates shown on the Pass.

    To claim a 'domestic' benefit (e.g. museum entry), your Pass must be valid in the country in question. To claim an 'international' benefit (e.g. reduced ferry travel), your Pass must be valid in both the countries of departure and arrival.

    Two kinds of benefits are available, namely those granting a reduction and those granting free travel/entrance. Benefits for free travel/entrance can only be granted to 'Flexi' passholders on a pre-selected 'travel day', whereas benefits offering a reduction can occur on any day within the overall validity of the pass, even if all the 'travel days' have been used.

  • 5. Validity

    The Eurail Global Pass is valid for travel with the participating railway companies in the countries listed on the Pass Cover (excluding Montenegro, Poland and Serbia). All participating Railways, private Transport Companies and Shipping Companies are listed in the Pass Guide. Eurail Select, Regional and One Country Passes are only valid for the country or countries which are printed on the ticket itself.

  • 6. Terms and Conditions

    Refunds, cancellations and exchanges
    All Eurail pass refund requests must be made exclusively at the company where the pass in question has been purchased, while presenting the original pass in its pass cover. If you've purchased your pass from STA Travel, contact STA Travel to begin the return procedure.

    Refunds are subject to a 15% cancellation fee to Eurail and a cancellation penalty to STA Travel after payment has been made.

    Unused rail passes are refundable within one (1) year from the purchase date (this is the issue date printed on the pass), provided they have not been activated (validated).

    Partially used or validated passes are 100% non-refundable.

    Shipping charges are not refundable.

    Lost or stolen rail passes are neither refundable nor replaceable.

    Travel conditions
    All bookings are accepted and all passes are issued on the express condition that STA Travel is not responsible nor liable for any loss (consequential or otherwise); damage (including, but not limited to, loss of, or damage to passengers' clothes, baggage, property, whatsoever); death, injury, delay, inconvenience or irregularity caused by, or arising from, or in connection with, any defect in any train, vehicle or other land or sea conveyance used, rented, or traveled in; or through the negligence, willful misconduct, strikes, or other acts, defaults, or omissions of any railroad carrier, car rental or other provider of goods and services.

    Travel on a Eurail pass is subject to the conditions, tariffs and regulations imposed by the European rail, shipping, bus or other companies, firms, or persons concerned.

    Pass Information

    Pass Usage - General Conditions

    Passes may only be used by the person(s) to whom it has been issued, and cannot be transferred. Misuse of any Eurail Pass, including photocopying, counterfeiting or attempting to extend its period of validity, is considered as fraud. This authorises any ticket inspector to demand a penalty fine and/or full payment for the journey, and may result in confiscation of the Pass.

    Eurail Passes cannot be replaced if lost or stolen, and appropriate insurance or 'Pass Protection' is strongly recommended.

    Eurail Passes must be activated within six months of issue (or, in the case of certain promotional Passes, by the date otherwise specified).

    Eurail Passes must be activated at a station of one of the participating railway companies, before you can commence your first train journey. When the traveller is arriving by international train into a country covered by their chosen Eurail Pass (i.e. from a country not covered by their Pass), then an inspector on board the train may also activate their Eurail Pass. Travellers cannot activate their own Passes.

    Journeys may not start before 00.00 hours on the first day of validity of the Pass, and may not end after 24.00 hours on the last day of validity.

    Certain trains may travel through a country not covered by your chosen Pass, in which case an additional ticket must be purchased for that part of the journey.

    Holders of '2nd Class' Eurail Passes may choose to travel in 1st Class, on payment of the difference in price between the 1st and 2nd Class full fares for the journey. No refund is payable if you choose to travel in a lower class.

    Pass Usage - Additional Conditions for 'Flexi' Passes

    Passengers travelling on a 'Flexi' pass (e.g. xx days of travel within xx days) may choose their own 'travel days' within the overall validity of the pass. The passenger must enter the date of each 'travel day' on the pass, in blue or black ink, before boarding the first train/ship of the day. Failure to do so may require the payment of a penalty fine to any ticket inspector.

    A chosen 'travel day' runs from midnight to midnight, however if the journey in question starts with an overnight train departing after 19.00 and arriving after 04.00 the following day, then only the following day needs to be used as a 'travel day' on your 'Flexi' Pass. If, however, this overnight service requires a change of train prior to midnight, then two 'travel days' must be used.

    When travelling on a 'Flexi' pass on board an overnight ferry, you may enter either the day of departure or the date of arrival - you do not need to use two travel days.

    Pass Usage - Additional Conditions for 'Saver' Passes
    Persons travelling on a 'Saver' Pass do not have to make all trips together as a party, however you do always have to carry both the 'Saver' Pass & Control Voucher with you whenever you are travelling. Therefore, on a day when some of the persons listed on the 'Saver' Pass choose to make a journey, the other members of your party cannot catch make a different journey at the same time.

    Supplements / Extra Charges
    Eurail passholders are exempt from paying a supplement on high-speed or premium services such as the ICE, TGV, IC and EC. On some of these services, however, a compulsory seat reservation must be paid for.

    Eurail passholders must also pay other charges and supplements, such as:
    (a) seat reservations, including those routinely offered and/or compulsory in countries such as Spain, France, Italy and elsewhere; as well as those which are simply recommended such as in the case of peak departures or high season travel;
    (b) sleeping accommodation, such as beds, cabins and couchettes on board trains, and the use of cabins, berths and reclining seats on board ferries;
    (c) services including meals, luggage check-in, newspapers and telephone calls, which are sometimes included in the supplement on some trains or ferries;
    (d) seasonal supplements on ferry routes operated by Attica Group & Minoan Lines; plus port taxes & the use of certain boats.

    Other
    Every booking accepted is subject to a fraud check. Potentially fraudulent bookings will be manually reviewed, and the customers will be contacted, if needed. This will happen within 48 hours after booking, during business days. STA Travel is not responsible nor liable for any loss (consequential or otherwise); damage, delay, inconvenience or irregularity caused by, or arising from, or in connection with this process.

    Travel insurance is recommended.

    Travelers are responsible for ensuring that they have all necessary travel documents and visas.

    Prices are subject to change without prior notice.
